Description
Statutory chimney sweeping
To be swept every year (1 yr.):
- Fireplaces and flues of a building used for permanent residential occupancy (e.g. fireplaces, baking ovens, sauna fireplaces and flues). A recreational building used year-round is equated with permanent residence.
To be swept every three years (3 yrs.):
- Fireplaces and flues of buildings used for recreational accommodation.
Other time limits:
- No fixed intervals have been set for the cleaning of gas-fired fireplaces and their flues. Their cleaning is the responsibility of the user.
- A fireplace and flue that have been unused for three years must be swept before being put into use. Unused fireplaces and smoke flues do not need to be swept.
- Fireplaces and smoke flues must be swept often enough, taking into account their degree of use and construction as well as the fuel used.
